December 18th - 23rd:
Twenty-eight Sharks swimmers competed at the Winter Sectionals in Long Beach,
CA. The enthusiastic group earned the team's highest place in history. The
Sharks placed 3rd in the Medium Team division in a meet featuring over 100
teams from all over California and Nevada!
Some of the most exciting performances came from the youngest
kids in the meet. Ariana Saghafi, Brittany Usinger, Aileen Lee, and Marina
Smith were the only 11-12's in the meet from ANY team. These four swimmers proved they were not intimidated by the older kids by collaborating for two Pacific relay
records! First they broke the 400 free relay record by 3 seconds, posting an
explosive 3:41.86! The next night they followed this up by smashing the 400
medley relay record with an impressive 4:05.29!
THE VETERANS WERE NOT TO BE OUTDONE! Madison White was on fire from the first night to
the last; posting best times in
1000 free (9:55.00, 5th), 200 back (1:55.06, 2nd), and 100 back (:54.33, 2nd)
as well as ripping on all the relays. Taylor Nanfria ripped 1000 free (9:55.19,
6th), and 400 IM (4:15.92, 2nd). Christina Ray continued to show the sport's
elite that she is a new force to be reckoned with in the butterfly; posting
great swims in the 100 fly (:55.69, 6th) and 200 fly (2:02.87, 21st). In the
mile Delise Batiza and Lexy Troup showed their toughness by finding enough
energy to light up the pool on the last day of meet! Delise placed 5th (16:54.32) and Lexy placed 8th (17:11.45).
These highlights are not the only points of pride for the Sharks.
80% of the kids that made the trip came home with best times. The coaches both
agree that this was the most spirited Sharks travel team yet. The swimmer's
support and cheering created great excitement during the finals and made the
meet fun. The Chaperone's helped to make the logistics of the meet run smoothly
and kept it well organized. We are all grateful to Bill Usinger, Laurie
Usinger, Sandy Doyle, Kim White, Phillip Lee, Lisa Limesand and Mehdi Saghafi
for their commitment to the team. With a great fall season completed and an
exciting winter season ahead, Crow Canyon is an exciting place to be! Go
Sharks!
